Hiking on the Petzen

With the gondola you reach the mountain station
"Siebenhütten". From the mountain station one
follows first a somewhat steep, later easier going climb to the " Kniepssattel " (approximately 90 minutes). You come to the Austrian state border; you reach the " Feistritzer top " (2114 m) after approximately 45 minutes. As well as from the Feistritzerspitze but also from the Kniepssattel there is a wonderful panorama of the Jauntal and the Julische Alpen.

Obir

Ascent: there are two possibilities: the first, scenically more beautiful, but a longer trip, leads steeply from the Schaidasattel to an alpine pasture. One reaches then the eastside of the Kuhberg. From there the way leads along the ruin of the Rainer protection house to the summit of the Hochobir (2142 m). The second way leads very steeply, at the start, from the Eisenkapplerhütte to the ruin of the Rainer protection house; it joins with the route of the Schaidasattel and leads half to the right to the summit of the Hochobir. With sunny weather please be careful: the complete ascent of the Eisenkapplerhütte lies in the shining sun.

Koralpe

The Koralpe is a massif of the central Alps from gneiss and glimmer-slates, between Lavanttal and the Weststeirischen hill country. It stretches from the Packsattel up to the Drau, in the big Speikkogel 2140 m high, along the border between Steiermark and Carinthia. Meadows with cows - and horse-breeding and rare Alp plants. Nervous mountain climbers should try their luck with climbing to the big Speikkogel because the real Speik grows there. The bewitching odour of this valerian plant causes real miracles to the nerves.

Saualpe

The Saualpe, a softly proceeding massif in the central-Alps from gneiss and glimmer slates separates the Lavanttal of the rest of Carinthia. Ladinger Spitz (2079 m), a quiet, small mountain with forests at the hillsides and meadows at the top. In the south the defence churches at approximately 1000 m form an interrelated defensechain from Hochfreistritz in the West by way of Diex, Grafenbach, Wölfnitz till Pustritz in the southeast. Shelters: Wolfsberger Hutte (1827 m), Ofnerhütte (1668 m), Reisberger Halt (1476 m.)

Georgiberg at the Klopeinersee

No guest, who spends his holiday at the Klopeiner See, should go home, without having rung the wish bell. In 1154 a"capella S.Georgi in monte" was built for the convent of Eberndorf. Presumably this church was the chapel for the castle of Eberndorf. The settlements at the foot of the Georgiberg therefore got the names Ober- and Unterburg. The simple altars date from the early 18th century. In the tower at the Southside hangs a wish-bell. In former times virgins came as a pilgrim to this bell and wished themselves a husband while clinging the bell a husband; if they had enough patience their wish could have been fulfilled. Within 20 minutes you can walk from the peak of the Georgiberg to Unterburg. Unterburg can be regarded as the origin of tourism at the Klopeiner See.

Trögerner Klamm

How to get there: Unterburg – Eberndorf - the Gösselsdorfer See to Eisenkappel and from here to the right through the Ebriacher Klamm up to the beginning of the Trögerner Klamm. In the years 1923 until 1925 the Trögerner Klamm was opened for the guests
by the construction of a path. This path in the ravine leads over bridges and opens up a splendid nature reservation with high
rocktowers, rock walls and waterfalls. It is recommended to walk through the 3 1/2 km tall ravines. The visit to the small place Trögern with its idyllic church is worthwhile!
The return trip is also possible over the Schaidasattel,
Abtei and Gallizien.
 

Koschuta

Die Koschuta ist ein etwa 15 km langer Gebirgsstock in den Karawanken und bildet die Grenze zwischen Kärnten und Slowenien.
Anfahrt: Über Rückersdorf, Wildenstein, Freibach oder von Eisenkappel über den Schaida Sattel finden Sie in Zell Pfarre, das von den Felshängen der Koschuta überragt wird. Das weite Hochtal mit verstreuten Gehöften und Almwirtschaft, Mühlen und Sägen ladet zum Verweilen ein. Zum 1279 m hoch gelegenen Koschutahaus gelangt man nach einem Fußmarsch von ca. 1 1/2 Stunden. Eine direkte Zufahrt mittels PKW ist ebenfalls über eine Mautstraße möglich. Der Koschutnikturm (2.136 m) ist der höchste Berg von diesem Bergmassiv.
 

Nockalm

For every nature lover the trip into the Nockberge is a permanent experience. The Nockalmstrasse is 35 kilometres
long within an area of particular scenic attraction. The gently winding Nockalmstrasse is ideal for car - and
motorcyclists, just as for cyclists. On both sides of the road there is an extended walking area of the national park
with innumerable, well marked, paths. Along the Nockalmstrasse you find several well led gastronomically
businesses with Kärntner homemaked food for the bodily welfare. The Nockberge is Europe's single national park in
the mild high mountain region with the biggest pines and birches of the Ostalps. The distinctive appearance of the round " Nockn " is an example of geological rarities and is unique in the entire Alps area.
One of the main-causes for the variety of the landscape is the variety of the existing rocks. These originated
hundreds of million years ago through a multiple change of country and sea, desert and forests!

Großglockner

Enter the impressive world of the high mountains. The Großglockner High Alpine Road takes you to some of the world’s most spectacular scenery – the Hohe Tauern National Park. Within a few kilometres you travel “halfway around the world”! You cross all climatic and vegetation zones between Austria and the Arctic: meadows, forests, alpine pastures, rocks and ice. And at the end, you come face to face with Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner (3.798 m), towering above the Pasterze glacier, the longest in the eastern Alps.
